The Regicide

(4 x 58 min episodes / 2 x 90 min episodes) for Sveriges Television. The Regicide is a penetrating depiction of the inner machinations of power in its public and private guises. A compelling and intensely thrilling story about those who rule and those affected by that rule, about power and powerlessness, and above all, about perpetrators and victims. It is the story of Linda Jakobsson, married to the Social Democrat finance minister Gert Jacobsson. The Social Democrats have just lost the election and Linda quickly understands that Gert has decided to topple the Prime Minister and run for leadership of the party himself. Linda can tell because she knows her husband for the power-hungry man he is - he has exercised his power over her for many, many years.

(12 x 30 min) Kaj is a mess. He lies, cheats and generally has little to show for himself. Luckily he’s got a permanent job as an es-tate agent, and a wife who, if all else fails, can support him. One day, however, all that comes to an end. He gets sacked from his job and, after one affair too many, his wife Maggan chucks him out of the house.

Homeless and desperate, he looks up his old mentor, Gunnar, who agrees to help him out in return for a favour. Kaj has to help Gunnar’s daughter Vilma become a successful estate agent. If he succeeds, he’ll get half the company. As soon as Kaj makes his promise to Gunnar, however, Gunnar dies, and Kaj has to get busy.

God Morning Children / God morgon alla barn (2005)

(3 x 58 min) The intermediate school in the small community of Kroka is preparing for the annual Lucia, Queen of Light, celebration. Each year, the prettiest girl in the school is chosen to play Lucia, but this year they decide to break with tradition and instead vote off the candidates one by one.

The main characters of the drama are Gun, a tradition-bound teacher of the school whose decision to change the rules has undreamed-of consequences for the people around her. We also meet Ann-Kristin, who runs a wedding salon and is the mother of Nettan, one of the Lucia candidates; the headmaster of the school, Bengt, who dreams of authority and a romantic relationship with Gun; Einar, the passionate village pizza baker, who is also the father of Karin, one of the students who rebels against the new order. Beneath the surface, the inhabitants of Kroka brood on their well kept secrets, and soon a spiral of events is set in motion that threatens to tear apart the community. And in the midst of all this, the mysterious school inspector arrives.
